A Peace roundtable held in Abuja on Thursday has recommended equal opportunity for youths, to enable them realise their full potential and attain leadership positions.

The roundtable, organised by the United States Mission in Nigeria in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, is a prelude to the 2024 International Day of Peace.

The Country Director of Global Peace Foundation in Nigeria, Reverend John Hayab advocated for a system to give young people the opportunity to participate in leadership roles.

He highlighted marginalisation in political participation, lack of access to quality education and cultural practices as factors hindering the participation of youths in leadership and peace building.

The Director of Baynakum Family Counselling Centre, Abdulfatah Adeyemi said Nigerian youths are resilient people who should be allowed to function in an atmosphere of peace to achieve greatness.

The Founder of the Transformation Church International, Reverend Sam Oye told the gathering that inclusive leadership was the only way to achieve sustainable peace and development.

He explained that Nigerian youths are vibrant and only needed the opportunity to realise their goals in an atmosphere of peace.

Peace advocate, Rafiu Lawan of the Building Blocks for Peace Foundation, faulted activists for their approach in nurturing peace.
