Former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he recently defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, insisting he has been part of the coalition from its inception.
Speaking during an X Space engagement, formerly Twitter, Obi said reports suggesting he only recently joined the ADC were misleading, noting that he was actively involved in the formation of the coalition.
According to him, the ADC was established as a collective platform to confront what he described as Nigeria’s growing existential challenges, stressing that the country’s current situation demands unity beyond partisan affiliations.
He explained that the coalition draws membership from across political divides, including the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Labour Party LP, All Progressives Congress APC, and other political platforms, united by a common goal of national renewal.
Obi emphasised that the movement is not driven by personal ambition or political positioning, but by a shared responsibility to rescue the country and rebuild public institutions.
Addressing speculations about internal leadership struggles, the former Anambra State governor said respected leaders within the coalition remain valued, adding that no individual is being pushed aside.
He maintained that attention should be focused on rebuilding trust in governance rather than dwelling on personal attacks or past political differences.
Peter Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the ADC coalition and urged Nigerians to support its vision of unity, accountability, and democratic renewal.
