Petrol Station, bakery shut in Zamfara State for alleged complicity in Banditry

A Petrol station and a bakery have been shut in Zamfara State, for alleged complicity in banditry activities.

The state’s task force ordered the immediate closure of the filling station in Tsafe and the bakery in Gusau Local Government Areas, after arresting three suspected fuel and bread suppliers to bandits in the forest.

It also recovered two motorcycles, with one filled with petrol, while the other carried loaves of bread, two Jerry cans and a power generator with petrol from bandits’ collaborators in Tsafe and Gusau Local Government Areas of the state.

The Taskforce was constituted by Governor Bello Mohammed of Zamfara State, following the new security measures put in place, to curb banditry in the state.

It was to ensure compliance with the State Executive order, banning the sale of petrol in jerry cans, movement of motorcycles with clutches in the 13 local government areas of Zamfara State, except the state capital, Gusau, from 6 pm to 8 pm.

The Chairman of the Taskforce, Abubakar Dauran, explained that the fuel suppliers have been using nonfunctional generators to obtain petrol from the filling stations, to fill Jerry cans, which they believed would be taken to the bandits in their camps.

The three suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

The Chairman of the Taskforce, Abubakar Dauran, enjoined residents of Zamfara State, to support the fight against banditry by adhering to the new order, for the containment of the security challenges being experienced in the state.
