PLANNED PROTEST

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has asked the President Bola Tinubu administration to ‘jaw ,jaw’ with organisers of August one planned protest and not ‘war war.

The NLC, in a statement signed by its President, Joe Ajaero, says the initiators of the protest have genuiune reasons due to the government’s economic policies, which have forced 133 million citizens into multidimensional poverty.

The NLC says the cost of living has not only removed the difference between employed and the unemployed but has forced families on one miserable meal per day, and others eating from the dust bins.

The organised labour says Nigerians are really angry, and an aggressive approach by the government in handling the matter may result in unintended consequences.

Labour, however, urges Nigerians not to engage in violent action while also telling the government en quote that “you cannot smack a child and at the same time ask the child not to cry”

There is an ongoing campaign on social media ahead of mega rallies across Nigeria on August one, against starvation, hunger, insecurity, and poverty, among other economic challenges.
