Christians in Jos, the Plateau State capital, are calling on the Federal Government to end the ongoing attacks on rural communities in Benue and Plateau states, which have claimed several lives over the past three weeks.
They made the call in a petition presented to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for onward delivery to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Christians from various denominations united in a peaceful protest, demanding an end to the violent attacks on their communities.
Led by prominent church leaders, the protesters marched through major streets in Jos and converged on the Plateau State Government House in Rayfield.
Speaking on behalf of the Christian leaders, President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Amos Mohzo, decried the repeated, unprovoked attacks that have left many dead, others injured, and entire livelihoods destroyed. He warned that if immediate action is not taken, entire communities risk extinction.
Receiving the petition, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed gratitude to Plateau Christians for their unwavering prayers in these trying times. He assured them that the government is working tirelessly to end the violence and restore peace.
The event ended with prayers for lasting peace in Nigeria and greater unity among Christians across the country .
