Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, North-Central Nigeria on Thursday sentenced three accused persons to death by hanging and lethal injection for culpable homicide which is punishable by death.
According to the presiding judge, Justice Arum Ashom of High Court 3, the three accused Persons who are Terry Kefas, Samson James and Patrick Nyam, were found guilty of stabbing one Joseph Gonsum to death on the December 25, 2015 around Gada Biyu in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Speaking shortly after the judgement, the prosecution counsel, John Mantu said the sentence is the meaning of justice to the society as the State has been prosecuting the case since 2015.
Mantu further explained that the case was delayed because the defence counsel always came up with technicalities once they saw evidence presented by the prosecution, the issue of Covid-19 and the three strikes by judiciary workers also affected the course of the trial.
On his part, the defence counsel, David Adudu, said the suit is between the State and three other defendants and that they are not satisfied with the judgement and will have to start the process of appealing it by commencing the transmission of the appeal process immediately.
