A High Court sitting in Jos on Tuesday sentenced 40-year-old David Dele to death by hanging.
He was condemned for truncating the neck of his former lover, Miss Nanchin Zacharia, of Nasarawa Gwom, in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
Dele, a graduate of the University of Jos, Faculty of Management, Accounting Department, was found guilty of committing the crime of culpable homicide and murder, punishable under Section 221 of the Northern Nigeria, 1963, applicable to Plateau State.
The judgment declared, that the defendant was arraigned and he proved guilty on the 21st of March 2021, with exhibits attached, which he testified through personal handwriting, which shows that he committed the crime.
The presiding Judge,
Justice Christy Dabup said the court relies on three issues to determine the veracity of the offence committed, eyewitness account evidence, confessional statement and circumstantial evidence of the witnesses.
Neither the Prosecution Counsel nor the Defence Counsel reacted to the Judgment.
