Plateau Killings: Police confirm fresh attack in Riyom LGA

Three youths have again been ambushed by suspected killer herdsmen in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.

The attack which occurred at about 9:00 pm on Tuesday, took place at the Riyom-Kum Road of the local government area .

AIT gathered that one Bitrus Chollom, aged 36, was hacked to death while two others, Isaac David and Emmanuel Davou, both escaped with severe machete cuts.

The Plateau State Police command while confirming the attack through its spokesman, ASP Gabriel Ubah, said immediately the command received the ugly information, detectives from the Division swiftly visited the scene where the corpse of the deceased was recovered, photographed, and taken to the hospital for autopsy, while the investigation is on to unravel the circumstances behind the incident and to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The youth leader of the community, Tengwong Dalyop, who also confirmed the incident, strongly condemned the attack on the innocent locals, who were returning from Riyom to Kum, where they had gone to attend a function.

Dalyop, who blamed the attack on suspected Fulani militias, further pointed out that the incident has been reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Riyom, and is waiting for the needed action of the police.

The Coordinator, Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria, ECCVN, Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, appealed to the government and security agencies in the state, to arrest the situation, adding that farmers in Riyom and Bassa Local Government Areas are afraid to go to their farms, for fear of being attacked.

As of the time of filing this report, the deceased person was being buried by the community.
