The students had come to school Monday morning to commence their second-semester examination, only to be told that staff of the institution had commenced an indefinite strike.

The news did not go down well with the students who blocked the Yakubu Gowon Way to press home their demands.

Motorists were either forced to seek alternative routes or turn back.

Security operatives on the ground tried to calm the students but to no avail.

When negotiations failed and stones started flying, the soldiers responded with tear gas and gunshots to clear the roads.

The academic calendar of the Plateau State Polytechnic has suffered series of setbacks, from the coronavirus pandemic, and strikes by lecturers of the institution which has greatly affected the academic progress of the students.
