Poland prepared to support Nigeria in defence, agriculture

Poland has expressed readiness to collaborate with Nigeria in the areas of defence and agriculture.

Polish President, Andrzej Duda, made this public when Nigerian Ambassador to Poland, Retired Major General Christian Ugwu presented his Letters of Credence to the President at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.

According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Embassy in Warsaw, Ambassador Ugwu during the credential presentation ceremony, conveyed the best wishes of President Muhammadu Buhari, to President Duda for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Poland.

President Duda assured the Nigerian Envoy of his support to succeed in the discharge of his mandate, adding that Poland is interested in exploring new areas of collaboration with Nigeria.

He also mentioned some of the highpoints of relations between the two countries since formal diplomatic ties began in 1961.

Amb. Ugwu emphasized the need for further exploration of potentials in various areas, noting the slow pace of economic activities between the two countries. . 

He, therefore, called for the support of President Duda for the eradication of all obstacles hindering the flow of investment and other forms of cooperation between Nigeria and Poland in the areas of Trade, Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Infrastructure, Mining and Defence.

Ambassador Ugwu served the Nigerian Army for 35 years and retired as a Major General in 2013.

He was appointed the Ambassador to the Republic of Poland by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2020.
