Police arrest Gunrunner with two AK 47, Ammunition in Katsina

Police in Katsina State have arrested a 45-year-old suspected gunrunner, Sani Mamuda, with 2 AK 47 rifles and magazines, loaded with 42 rounds of 7.62 millimetres ammunition.

The spokesman of the command, Superintendent Gambo Isah, who paraded the suspect before newsmen at the command headquarters, said the exhibits were concealed beneath the seat of his motorcycle.

According to Gambo Isah, the suspected gun runner was arrested along the Kurfi-Batsari Road, while on transit from Katsina to Zamfara States, to deliver the consignments.

He added that the suspect confessed to having bought the guns and ammunition from 2 repentant terrorists simply named, Masa’ud and Abdullahi, residing at Mashi forest for 2 million Naira.

Demonstrating how he concealed the consignments underneath his motorcycle seat, to beat the security agencies, the 45-year-old suspect, who has 13 children said, he went into the crime after his business collapsed.

Mamuda also confessed to making between 70 to 80 thousand Naira on each of the arms deal.

He also confessed to supplying the said weapons to other terrorists whom he named as Rabe, Lawal and Hamisu, all of Shama Village, of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Isah while assuring the public of the command’s preparedness to stamp out crime and said they are committed to the ongoing fight against recalcitrant bandits.
