The Police have arrested seven policemen over corruption allegations as part of measures to cleanse the Edo State Command of bad elements who have continued to present the Force in bad light.

This move by the State Commissioner of Police Abutu Yaro is contained in a statement made available to journalists by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Iwegbu this weekend.

According to the statement, the seven arrested personnel have been detained and are being investigated by an ad-hoc committee set up to investigate the allegations of corruption against the.

The committee is headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, James Chu with phone number 08035511263 and the Command’s Provost Marshall, Avanrenren Godwin with phone number 08058813590, as the Deputy Chairman.

The statement further clarified the need for the Committee to checkmate the activities of police personnel especially with the recent online video making the rounds on Twitter where a policeman identified as Constable Victor Osabuohien who has been arrested was seen engaging in extortion of a road user identified as Architect Bolu.

Other Police operatives that were also arrested before now on the grounds of official corruption and undergoing investigations while awaiting disciplinary action include:

  1. AP/No 135192 ASP Godspower Ijebu
  2. AP/No 199776 Inspector Ebatamole Philip
  3. AP/No 271855 Inspector Ademola Benjamin
  4. AP/No 271825 Inspector Inaite Vincent
  5. AP/No 271897 Inspector Robert Esikise
  6. AP/No 200713 Inspector Adefaye Samuel.

Yaro while appreciating efforts in putting the police in better perspectives, enjoined the good people of Edo State including the victims of official corruption, extortion and checking of phones, to make judicious use of the phone numbers provided as their complaints would aid the committee in their investigations and to serve justice accordingly.
