The Nasarawa State Police Command has intercepted two suspected gunrunners traveling through Lafia, the state capital, with a large cache of high-grade firearms and ammunition, en route to Ilorin, Kwara State.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, Rahman Nansel, gave the names of the two suspects as Lawal Sani, a 40-year-old male commercial bus driver from the Makwalla area of Katsina State, and Dahiru Abdullahi, a 75-year-old male cattle trader from Angwan Dosa, Kaduna North LGA of Kaduna State, who is known to operate within Keffi Cattle market, Nasarawa state
According to the statement, the two suspects confessed to have been paid five hundred thousand naira to transport the weapons that include one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), three AK-47 rifles, one TAB 06 rifle, and one thousand and ninety-six rounds of ammunition.

The statement also listed items recovered from the two suspects to include twenty rounds of 7.62mm NATO caliber ammunition, four empty magazines, and one grey Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AAA 926 XL.

Nansel explained that the command’s anti-kidnapping unit acting on credible intelligence about the movement swooped on the suspects leading to their arrest and are currently in custody while a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the network behind their operation.
The Nasarawa state Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed, reassured the public that the command is dedicated to dismantling illegal arms networks and protecting the lives of innocent Nigerians.
