Police arrest two suspects over alleged defilement, kidnapping of six-year-olds in Niger state

Niger State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Lukman Aliyu for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Ibeto, Magama Local Government Area of the state.

Also in police custody is 27-year-old, Genesis Yaryok Sunday from Ungwar-Gwari, Sabon-Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area who was picked up on suspicion of abducting his neighbour’s six-year-old son.

Spokesman of the police in the state, Wasi’u Abiodun, in a statement, said a report was made at Ibeto Police Outstation, under Nasko Division, that on January 29, at about 2 pm, a six-year-old girl arrived home from school with suspected bloodstains on her body.

Abiodun said that upon questioning, she explained that the 20-year-old suspect defiled her in a nearby bush as she walked home from school.

He added that the suspect who was immediately arrested, allegedly confessed to the crime as the victim was taken to General Hospital Nasko for medical attention.

In the case of the boy allegedly kidnapped by his neighbour, the police spokesman said the victim was found in Jere area of Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State a few hours later and taken to the nearest police station from where he was handed over to Tafa police Division.

According to the police image maker, the suspect has also confessed to abducting the boy and taking him to Idah on Kaduna road where he intended to demand a ransom of 200,000 naira from the boy’s mother to settle his debts.

The two suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation.
