The Police in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria has confirmed a successful rescue operation of a kidnapped clergy, early Sunday.
Operatives of the State Police Command reportedly gunned down one of the suspects and arrested two others during the rescue operation.

The victim identified as Reverend Nicodemus Ude of the Nigeria Reform Church, Edupfu-egbu, in Ndufai Ishieke in Ebonyi Local Government Area, was said to have been abducted in the early hours of Sunday, on his way to a church service.
Narrating his ordeal, the freed clergy, described the experience as horrifying.

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, in a Press statement late Sunday, explained that the State Commissioner of Police, Faleye Olaleye on receiving a distress call on the incident, immediately swung into action to ensure a rescue.

“The kidnappers were intercepted along Ndofia Ishieke and Edupfu Egbu Ishieke in Ebonyi Local Government Area, where they abandoned the victim and took to their heels while exchanging gunshots with the Police to pave way for their escape”, the police spokesperson says.

The Press statement adds that apart from the killing of one of the hoodlums, and the arrest of two others, the operatives also recovered two vehicles, Two AK47 and One Lar rifles from the suspects.
