A suspected 39-year-old Islamic Cleric, Jemilu Idris, has been arrested by the Police in Katsina State, for allegedly kidnapping his 4-year-old cousin and demanded 5 million Naira ransom.

The spokesman of the Police, Superintendent Gambo Isah, who paraded the suspect along with 13 others said, it is in furtherance of the command’s fight against crimes and criminality.

The ransom of 5 million Naira was later negotiated downward to 500,000 thousand, which led to a misunderstanding and his subsequent arrest.

Superintendent Gambo Isah, while parading the suspected Islamic cleric said, he has about 41 Islamic students, Almajirai, under his care.

He added that the police arrested him, following a credible tip-off and a report made by the boy’s father.

According to the suspected Cleric, Jemilu Idris, he learnt that the boy’s father was not around and decided to go to the house to ask for the minor, whom he abducted.

He further said, he called the boy’s father on phone, telling him that his son had been kidnapped and demanded the sum of 5 million Naira which was negotiated to 500,000 thousand, but he said it was too small and held unto the boy.

He also confessed to being dressed like a woman, putting on Hijab to enter peoples houses, raping unsuspecting victims and committing other crimes.

Idris further said, he has 41 Islamic students under his tutelage and mentorship.

The police image maker said the suspect will soon be charged to court, at the end of investigations.
