Nasarawa State Police Command says its operatives have intercepted arms and ammunition from an unknown supplier now on the run.
A statement released by the State Police Commissioner Shetima Mohammed says credible intelligence regarding the movement of a suspected criminal transporting arms and ammunition along Giza-Kadarko road in Keana Local Government Area was received upon which a coordinated manhunt was launched, leading to the operational success by officers of Giza Division.
According to the statement, the suspect upon being flagged down for questioning fled into a nearby bush to evade arrest.
The officers recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines and forty-five rounds of live ammunition from the fleeing supplier who was riding an unregistered motorcycle.
The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and trace the origin of the firearms and ammunition and their intended destination before the interception by the police.
