In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, the arrest was made on March 10, 2026, at about 7:50 p.m.

According to the statement, a team of police operatives on routine patrol along the Gusau–Funtua Federal Road at the Yankara checkpoint acted on credible intelligence, which led to the arrest of 25-year-old Mannir Adam of Yankuzo Village in Tsafe Local Government Area. The suspect was riding a red Boxer motorcycle at the time of the arrest.

Police say a thorough search of the motorcycle by the patrol team led to the discovery of 800 rounds of AK-47 7.62mm live ammunition carefully concealed inside the motorcycle’s fuel tank.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was travelling from Unguwar Bawa in Saminaka Local Government Area of Kaduna State and was heading to Kucheri Village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State.

The suspect and the recovered ammunition have been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation aimed at identifying and arresting other members of the criminal network.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating crime and urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to assist security agencies in protecting lives and property.
