Police intercept suspect smuggling 400 live bullets into Edo State

A major movement of ammunition being moved across the Niger Bridge en route to Edo state has been intercepted by operatives of the Delta State police command.

The vehicle conveying the ammunition, a Toyota Hiace Hummer bus, driven by one Sylvanus Ozeomena, was flagged down during a routine stop and search at the head bridge, in Asaba.

The driver who was uneasy during questioning, drew the suspicion of the officers, who proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle, leading to recovery of 400 live cartridges carefully concealed within the bus.

The driver was immediately arrested with ongoing investigation to unravel the source of the criminal network behind illegal arms movement.

In a related development, the police have also arrested a notorious drug peddler at Jeddo community in Oreokpe local government area of Delta state.

The 37-year-old male suspect, Onos Afokeogene, who, according to the police, is known for distributing large quantities of hard drugs within Warri and adjoining communities, was nabbed following Intelligence received.

A starling discovery of illicit substances an paraphernalia used in large scale drug sales were seen at the scene where the suspect was apprehended.

Exhibits recovered include, 3kg of Canadian loud, 10kg of cannabis sativa, 24 liters of soaked weed, several sachets of tramadol of various milligrammes, and 2 point-of-sale machines suspected of being used for drugs sales.

The police command in a statement signed by the commissioner of police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, called on the residents, to continue to partner with the police by providing timely and credible information that will assist in detecting, preventing and combating crime in all its forms.
