The Bayelsa State Police Command has begun investigation into circumstances surrounding the lynching of a suspect, Richman Igwele, who residents of Obele suburb and other adjoining areas have accused of being a serial rapist and robber.
Igwele was reportedly caught red-handed and given the beating of his life by an angry mob during another attempt to commit rape, a situation that eventually led to his death.

Forr some residents of the area, mostly women and children who staged a protest over the arrests of three local vigilante leaders, the death of Richman Igwele was a case of good riddance to bad rubbish.

The vigilante members were however later released
The Police Public Relations Officer Bayelsa state Command, Asinim Buswat while reacting to the development said residents had no right to take laws into their hands, adding that investigation would be unrelenting until those involved are apprehended.
The Bayelsa State Police Command has frowned against meting of jungle justice on suspected criminals, warning that those identified would be prosecuted.
