The Police in Owerri, the Imo State capital, have foiled an armed robbery operation in the city, killing one of the suspects and arresting two in an encounter on Saturday.
The suspects were said to have invaded a gold store at the Ikenegbu Layout Area of the city, dispossessing the traders of their wares, before Police operatives confronted them.

Parading the two arrested suspects at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said jewellery worth millions of Naira, allegedly stolen from the gold store, two pump-action guns, four locally made pistols, and live cartridges were among items recovered from the gang.
The Police spokesman quotes the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Berde, as commending the operatives for foiling the attack, and reassuring the citizens of Imo State of their safety.
