The Police in Benue State has arrested and paraded a total of 83 suspects for their involvement in cultism and armed robbery activities during the Yule tide season.

A further breakdown by State Commissioner of Police, Mukaddas Garba indicates that 10 out of the number were arrested from different locations of the state in connection with armed robbery while the remaining 73 were being held for cultism.

Garba said the feat was achieved between December 20, 2020 and January 5, 2021.

The State police command’s strategy to clamp down on cult activities and other heinous crimes during the festivities led to the deployment of officers to various locations which seemed to have yielded the desired result.

Other items recovered include locally made pistols, single barrel guns, military camouflage uniforms, bulletproof vests, aces boots, military berets, stolen laptops, charms, among others.

According to Commissioner Garba, the suspects were arrested with these items, including 13 guns, 20 knives, five live ammunitions and five cartridges.

The police commissioner, who noted that the suspects would soon be charged to court after the completion of investigation, advised parents to always monitor the activities of their children and ensure they avoid bad company.
