A Police officer in Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria was at the weekend captured on a now viral video, brandishing his rifle during an altercation with a passenger he was transporting on his commercial tricycle.

The viral video of two minutes thirty seconds is an Amateur recording at the ever-busy Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway but our correspondent could not independently ascertain reasons for the altercation which resulted in the police personnel brandishing a rifle.

The video shows the personnel putting on a shirt resembling a police uniform, calling out the passenger he transported to hand him over his magazine that he was going to work.

Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Police Command late Monday, condemned the action of the officer noting that investigation has been initiated to unravel the cause of the action.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu in a statement says the Command is aware of a video circulating on social media involving a police officer driving a tricycle in an altercation with his passengers, during which he allegedly brandished his rifle.

Ukandu states that the officer involved has been identified, and an investigation is underway, but disciplinary actions have already been initiated against him.

According to the statement, the Command strongly condemns the officer’s actions as they violate the ethics and Standard Operating Procedures, SOP of the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement further says that, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya, assures residents of the State that the Command has zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct from its officers noting that officers will be held accountable for their actions.
