The police in various operations have recovered dangerous weapons, millions of naira paid as ransom and other items in the latest crackdown on kidnapping in Enugu and Ogun States.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said that in a coordinated intelligence-led operation, police in Enugu recovered an AK-47 rifle with two rounds of live ammunition, and arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Aliyu Adamu, who confessed to participating in several abductions after being invited from Anambra State.

Also in Enugu, two female suspects, Juliet and Nancy Chukwu were arrested during the sharing of ₦10 million ransom collected from a male relative they allegedly conspired to kidnap.

The victim was rescued unhurt and their operational vehicle recovered.

Adejobi further said that in Ogun State, operatives acting on intelligence, tracked the hideout of suspected kidnappers who had abducted three persons near Ajebo axis under Owode Egba Division.

A shootout later ensued between the police and the suspected abductors along the Lagos, Ibadan Expressway during which two suspects were neutralised as the victims were rescued without injury.

He said items recovered include one AK-47 rifle, 139 rounds of ammunition, a magazine, a cutlass, a chain and padlock, more than 1.2 million naira suspected to be part of the ransom, and multiple mobile phones believed to have been used in ransom negotiations.

According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has said that the success of the operations demonstrates the Force’s renewed commitment to deploying technology and intelligence in tackling violent crimes nationwide.

The police boss assures Nigerians of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates and improve national security.
