The police have rescued twelve trafficked children in Abia State, arresting two suspected traffickers.

And in another operation, a significant cache of weapons and ammunition were recovered by police operatives in Kogi State.

According to a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, officers intercepted a green-colored Sharon vehicle that breached a checkpoint at high speed and after a hot pursuit, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Adejobi said a swift cordon and search operation led to the recovery of 5 AK-47 rifles, 8 magazines, and over 340 rounds of various calibers of ammunition.

The force spokesman disclosed that investigations are ongoing, with early findings suggesting a link to a recent armed robbery in Kabba.

Meanwhile, in Abia State, police operatives arrested two individuals — 49-year-old Blessing Emebo and 42-year-old Sunday Emebo — for operating an unregistered, illegal motherless babies’ home in their residence at Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.

Adejobi said twelve children, aged between six months and fourteen years, were rescued from the premises and initial investigations reveal they were trafficked from different villages in the Arochukwu area.

The children have been handed over to Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for appropriate care, while the suspects are under interrogation and will be charged in due course.

The statement further said that Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers involved and reiterated the Force’s commitment to public safety, crime reduction, and the protection of vulnerable populations.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, avoid entrusting children to strangers, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
