An indigene of Sokoto State abducted by terrorists has been rescued by men of the Nigeria Police Force in Niger State after 8 days in captivity.

A statement by the Spokesman of the Police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, said the victim was rescued on May 22, at about 11am, when Police Operatives of 12PMF stationed at Mararaban Dan-daudu Pin-down point found the 23-year-old victim wandering around the forest.

He added that after questioning, he was taken to Gwada Division for further interview where he revealed that he was kidnapped from Gatawa village with his father, both of Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The victim said that sometime in April, within the period of Ramadan, some unidentified hoodlums invaded their village, shooting sporadically, and out of fear for their lives, he and his father ran but unfortunately ended up in the hands of the terrorists.

They were both tied, blindfolded and then transported using motorcycles to an unknown destination. He added that while in transit, he heard a gunshot, his father fell, and he suspected that he had been killed.

He also added that while in captivity, he was able to escape and had to navigate the forest for eight days until he encountered Police personnel in Niger State.

The statement further added that the victim has been taken to hospital for medical attention, and the effort to locate his relatives is ongoing.
