Benue State in the North Central parts of Nigeria is bleeding again as dozens of people, including a 2-year-old and a policeman, have been killed in reported coordinated attacks on about 3 communities of Gwer West Local Government Area of the State.
One of the communities attacked is Aondona, the hometown of the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Bishop Wilfred Anagbe who in March this year testified against the killings perpetrated against Christians in Nigeria, the Middle Belt Region and Benue state in particular to the United States House on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa.
The aftermath of this weekend’s worrisome attack on some communities of Gwer-West is still unfolding, leaving the Council Chairman, Victor Ormin completely helpless.
While he blames the security operatives for being non-responsive, the Police Public Relations officer simply sent a text message, “the Police responded when the case of Aondona was reported and 3 bodies were recovered and investigation is ongoing. … a Policeman died defending one of the villages just a few hours before this incident in Gwer-West Local Government Area.”
ait.live reports that although the said attacks are not limited to only communities of Gwer-West Local Government Area, but recent bloody invasions in the Council have persisted unabated, forcing locals in nearly 15 Council wards to flee their communities to Naka, the Council headquarters or other seemingly safer communities.
