Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory Senator Abubakar Kyari, on Wednesday decried the poor budgetary allocation for the federal capital territory which has hindered the development of satellite towns within the FCT.

Senator Kyari, made this known while submitting the harmonized 2022 FCT budget, as approved by both Senate and House of Representatives Committees on FCT before the Senate Committee on Appropriation.

According to the lawmaker, the sum of N37.4 was allocated for FCT in the 2021 budget, and N64bn is proposed for the FCT for 2022.

He said out of the total sum of 64bilion for 2022 budget N33.2 is earmarked for Multilateral/Bilateral project – tied – loans, and Greater Abuja Water Supply Project While the FCT administration is left with an appropriation of N31.6B for ongoing projects.

The Senator lamented that, despite approving the sum of N37bn for FCT in the 2021 budget, only N30bn was released to the FCT, “representing a budget performance of 81%”.

Senator Kyari said the FCT does not receive allocation for personnel and overhead costs, adding that out of the N64bn proposal for 2022 , the Ministry of Finance introduced the sum of N33bn into the FCT component for the 2022 budget for the new project titled ‘Multilateral/Bilateral project – tied – loans – Greater Abuja Water Supply Project’.
