As more vessels begin to berth at the Calabar port, the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, says it is set to deploy Marine Police on twenty-four hour Surveillance to ensure safe movement of vessels along the water channels.
The Manager of NPA, Calabar, Olumati Festus made this known when he received the management of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, in his office, saying the effort was in partnership with the Nigerian Police.
Olumati said the 24hr patrol will keep the sea safe along the brown waters corridor, stressing that the effort will also reduce the issues of insecurity along the Calabar Channels.
He called on the media to be part of the efforts to boost the economic activities of Calabar port.
On his part, the chairman of NUJ, Cross River Council, Nsa Gill said journalists in the state are part of the success story of the Calabar port that will change the economic fortunes of the State and beyond.
The NPA Management explained that moves to settle out of court has begun, to enable the dredging of the the Calabar channel commence to guarantee full operation of the port.
