A truck carrying a container collided with the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) tower T16 in Gunduwawa Village, Gezawa Local Government Area, Kano State, on Sunday, August 11, 2024, causing a power outage in several communities in Northwestern Nigeria.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:28 am, resulting in the tripping of the Kano-Hadejia 132kV Transmission Line and a loss of about 16.6MW.
The affected communities, including Hadejia, Gumel, Gagarawa, Nguru, and others in Jigawa and Yobe States, have been left without power.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria says it has dispatched a team to survey the line and has contracted a contractor to reconstruct the damaged tower.

The company pledged to expedite action on the repair process to restore bulk power supply to the affected substations as soon as possible.
The incident has been reported to the Gezawa Divisional Police Station, and the driver has been detained.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, but the collusion has caused significant disruption to power supply in the region.
According to a statement issued by General Manager, Public Affairs, TCN Ndidi Mbah, “A contractor has already been contracted to reconstruct the tower, and he is expected to mobilize to the site of the incident. We pledge to do everything possible to quickly dismantle the damaged tower, re-erect a new one, and restring the lines to enable the resumption of bulk power supply to the two substations.”
