Nigeria’s electricity transmission system, popularly known as the National Grid has collapsed again, plunging the country into darkness.

The latest collpase, is the third within s space of one month, and the fourth since the beginning of 2022. The last two incidents occured on March 14 and 15.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, in a tweet said that the collapse had resulted in power outage in its area of operation, which covers about five states including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and its environs.

“Please be informed that there has just been a National Grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria). We regret all inconvenience caused.”

Also, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company said the grid collapse affected its entire network.

“Good evening everyone. We regret to inform you that the current outage affecting our entire network is due to system collapse,” EKEDC stated.

It added that the “TCN team is working to resolve it as soon as possible.

Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, has also tweeted to inform its customers that the system collapse has affected its franchise.

“We write to inform our numerous customers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States that the current power outage is due to a system collapse  on the National Grid.”

Last month’s grid collapses worsened the country’s energy crisis nationwide, as Nigerians had to contend with fuel scarcity and power outages.

The latest collapse is expected  to again cause blackouts  across the country, as homes and businesses are without power to run their activities.
