President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose second and final tenure will expire on July 31, 2026.
Professor Aina, a Computer Engineering scholar and systems expert, is expected to assume office following the completion of Professor Oloyede’s tenure.
At 40, he will become the youngest Registrar in the history of the examination body.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, Professor Aina’s appointment is in line with the administration’s commitment to strengthening institutional reforms and advancing digital transformation in the education sector.
The statement described the new JAMB Registrar as a distinguished academic with expertise in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector institutional reform.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, gaining experience in admissions management and examination processes.
Over the years, he has worked with several examination bodies, including National Examinations Council, NECO and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB providing consultancy services on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process optimisation.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Professor Aina would build on the achievements recorded under Professor Oloyede and further reposition JAMB through innovation, efficiency and institutional reforms.
