President Bola Tinubu on Monday paid glowing tribute to late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a leader whose legacy of integrity, humility and disciplined service to Nigeria will continue to resonate across generations.
The President spoke at the official presentation of the book “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari” held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
In his special remarks as Guest of Honour, President Tinubu said Buhari would be remembered not for the privileges of office but for the values he upheld long after power had faded.
In his words“The measure of a leader is not simply the offices he held or the motorcades that accompanied him. It is what persists when the sirens fall silent,”noting that Buhari lived modestly and regarded public office as a sacred trust rather than a personal reward.
President Tinubu extended the nation’s condolences to the Buhari family, assuring them of Nigeria’s prayers and gratitude for the late leader’s years of service.
“I extend the nation’s .He assured that the Buhari name will continue to inspire noble service for generations,”
Reflecting on their shared political journey, the President recalled the formation of a broad coalition that led to the historic 2015 election victory which unseated an incumbent government.
“Together, we built a coalition that proved Nigeria could chart a new course. That movement remains the fastest-growing political party in Africa today,” Tinubu stated.
The book was reviewed by Dr. Charles Omole, who described From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari as a balanced and intellectually honest account of the former president’s life and leadership.
He said the biography captures Buhari’s achievements and shortcomings, offering readers a deeper understanding of his character, decision-making and sense of duty.
According to Dr. Omole, the book serves as an important historical document that preserves national memory and provides lessons for future leaders on integrity, discipline and responsibility in public office.
The event also featured tributes from former service chiefs and security heads, including retired generals, admirals and air marshals, who highlighted Buhari’s commitment to national security, discipline and institutional reform.
A short documentary on the life and legacy of the late former president was screened, followed by the official unveiling and presentation of the book.
