Presidency again dismisses Northern Elders Forum over criticism of President Buhari

President Buhari

The Presidency says it is not surprised by the statement issued on Sunday by the Northern Elders Forum, NEF and signed by its Convener, Professor Ango Abdullahi, alleging that the insecurity in some northern states of the country was an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governors of those states have lost control over the protection of the people which is a constitutional duty.

The Presidency said the latest statement by Professor Abdullahi, was a confirmation of its earlier position on what the group represents, a mere irritant and featherweight.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said on hearing the title of the statement by the former Vice Chancellor, one would think the body was a conglomeration of true elders but the truth is that NEF is just Ango Abdullahi, and Ango Abdullahi is NEF. It is a quasi-organisation that boasts of no credible membership, and its leader is akin to a General without troops.

It added that before the 2019 presidential election, the one-man army called NEF had shown its anti-pathy against President Buhari, and its preference for another candidate, but they all got beaten together.

The Presidency noted that NEF is merely waving a flag that is at half-mast while President Buhari steadily and steadfastly focuses on the task of retooling Nigeria, and discerning Nigerians know the true state of the nation and don’t need a paper tiger to tell them anything.
