President Muhammadu Buhari has called for the support of State and Local governments, civil society organizations, the Media and other development partners for a peaceful and successful conduct of the 2023 National population census.
President Buhari made the appeal while declaring open the national stakeholders summit for the 2023 population census in Abuja.
The President said Nigeria’s inability to conduct a population census 16 years after the last head count in 2006 has created a vacuum and denied the nation the benefit of comprehensive data for evidence based decision making.
He said it has become necessary to conduct another census to provide the bases for national planning and sustainable development.

President Buhari also said the deployment of technology by the national population commission, will inspire the confidence of Nigerians on the acceptability of the outcome even as stakeholders are sceptic about its conduct the smooth in the face of present security challenges in the country.
The national stakeholders summit is aimed at promoting robust and informed national conversation on the processes and procedures for the 2023 population and housing census.
