President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday summoned the first National Security Council meeting since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country.

Presidential aides say the meeting follows recent security challenges in Katsina, Nasarawa, Kaduna and other states of the federation.

Niger, Benue and Plateau States have also remained under attacks by gunmen. While bandits are believed to be responsible for the attacks on communities in Niger State, suspected herdsmen have been blamed for the killings in the other 2 states

Unlike the Federal Executive Council meeting of Wednesday that was held on the virtual platform, those attending the National Security Council meeting are physically present at the Presidential Villa

In attendance are service chiefs, including the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu while the Chief of Army Staff who is in the North East leading the war against Boko Haram terrorists is represented by Lieutenant-General Lamidi Adeosun. The representative of the Army Chief is the Chief of Policy and Planning at the Army Headquarters.

Others at the meeting include, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Minister of Defense Bashir Magashi, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola and other members of the Council.

Security operatives have been an integral part of the national response plan against COVID-19 and have also been in charge of enforcing lockdown measures across the country.
