President Bola Tinubu has announced the establishment of a special fund to support members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, including those injured in the line of duty and the families of fallen soldiers.
Marking his 74th birthday, the President revealed that he has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a dedicated account for the initiative.
In a personal commitment, all his salaries since assuming office will be paid into the fund as seed funding, supplementing existing welfare and insurance schemes for military personnel.
The fund will provide direct support to wounded service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of those who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
President Tinubu also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the initiative once account details are announced.
“This is not charity. It is duty. And we will fulfil it,” he said, emphasizing the nation’s obligation to honour the sacrifices of its armed forces and their families.
