President Bola Tinubu has congratulated two prominent Nigerians, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate, and Vice President, Global Impact at OpenAI, Anna Adeola Makanju, following their inclusion on the prestigious Devex Power 50 List for 2026.
The duo was named among 50 influential global figures shaping the future of international development, alongside notable personalities including Ghanaian President John Mahama.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, President Tinubu described the recognition as well-deserved and commended both Nigerians for their outstanding contributions to global development and leadership in their respective fields.
The President noted that the honour reflects Nigeria’s vast human capital and global relevance, adding that Prof. Pate and Makanju’s achievements have made the country and Nigerians in the diaspora proud.
The Devex Power 50 is an annual, curated list that highlights the most influential individuals, organisations, and initiatives driving progress in global development.
Prof. Pate, a former Global Director for Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank, was recognised for his strong advocacy in expanding healthcare access in Nigeria, with particular emphasis on domestic sourcing of health products.

Devex also noted that his influence extends beyond Nigeria, citing his efforts to reform the global health infrastructure, which have positioned him as one of the most recognised health ministers on the African continent.
Anna Makanju was honoured for her growing influence in the global artificial intelligence ecosystem. She currently oversees model deployment, policy, and governance at OpenAI and previously served as a Special Adviser to former United States President Joe Biden.
Devex described her as a key figure shaping how next-generation AI systems will impact global development, noting her leadership in OpenAI’s engagement with governments and in developing early AI guardrails.
President Tinubu urged both honourees to continue striving for excellence and to sustain their contributions toward advancing development globally.
