President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation between both countries.

The visit, according to the Presidency, will focus on deepening collaboration in key sectors, including security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation, while also building on the longstanding cordial relationship between Nigeria and Türkiye.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, President Tinubu is expected to hold high-level political and diplomatic talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who last paid an official visit to Nigeria in October 2021.

The discussions he says will centre on shared interests and values in finance, communication, trade, and investment, with meetings scheduled between senior officials of both nations.

The programme of activities will also include the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and diplomatic protocol.

A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will be held during the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen private-sector partnerships.

Members of President Tinubu’s delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Other officials on the entourage are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit.
