President Bola Tinubu on Sunday declared that insecurity represents the next critical phase of Nigeria’s national struggle, as state governors paid him a Salah homage at his Lagos residence.
Speaking during the visit, the President expressed gratitude to the governors for turning up at short notice, describing the gesture as a strong demonstration of unity, sincerity, and shared commitment to the country’s progress.
President Tinubu said while the nation has made strides, the challenge of insecurity now stands as a major obstacle to development, prosperity, and stability, stressing that collective action is required to overcome it.
He assured the governors of his determination to strengthen coordination and expand the necessary networks to confront security threats, noting that the fight must be pursued with renewed vigour and collaboration across all levels of government.
The President disclosed that discussions during his recent trip to the United Kingdom centred significantly on securing military equipment, adding that he also held further talks with Emmanuel Macron on Saturday on possible support for Nigeria in the areas of defence equipment and training.
According to him, Nigeria must leverage its international goodwill and explore available lines of credit to acquire the tools needed to defeat terrorism, insisting that investment in modern technology and equipment remains key to winning the fight.
Tinubu also urged governors to prioritise the welfare of vulnerable citizens, warning that the ongoing Middle East crisis could trigger inflationary pressures, weaken purchasing power, and worsen transportation costs.
He noted that government at all levels must work closely with labour unions and other stakeholders to mitigate the economic impact of rising global prices.
Reaffirming his commitment to national progress, the President expressed optimism that with unity and sustained effort, Nigeria would overcome insecurity and move steadily towards growth and prosperity.
