President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with the newly appointed Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, being their first meeting with Commander-In-Chief of the country’s Armed Forces since their appointments last week.
The Service Chiefs, led by the new Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, arrived at the Villa around 3.15pm local time.
Oluyede, who until his recent appointment served as Chief of Army Staff, was accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff, Major-General W. Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral I. Abbas; and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye.
President Tinubu had last week announced sweeping changes in the military hierarchy, naming General Oluyede to replace General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.
The reshuffle, according to the Presidency, was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
Although details of Monday’s meeting were not made public, it is believed to have focused on defence priorities and strategies under the new leadership.
While announcing their appointments, President Tinubu had charged the new Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship within the Armed Forces.
