President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The nomination, which requires Senate confirmation in accordance with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006, follows the resignation of Professor Abdullahi Usman after about 14 months in office.
In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, the President sought the “expeditious confirmation” of Ambassador Yusuf to head the commission.
A statement issued Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Yusuf as a seasoned career diplomat. He served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024, bringing significant international and administrative experience to the position.
