President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for a historic State Visit to the United Kingdom, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The visit, which runs from March 18 to March 19, will see President Tinubu hosted by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
This marks the first State Visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, and the first time a Nigerian President will be received by the British monarch at Windsor Castle.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Monday, during the visit, the President and the First Lady will view a special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection related to Nigeria, participate in private discussions with the King, and engage with organisations involved in interfaith dialogue.
A State Banquet will also be held in their honour.
President Tinubu is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, which will lead to expanded collaboration between senior officials of both countries.
Several Memoranda of Understanding and agreements are expected to be signed, covering trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.
A highlight of the visit will be the signing of a £746 million financing deal between UK Export Finance and the Nigerian Ports Authority to support the refurbishment of Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex.
The President will also attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition, showcasing Nigerian arts and culture, and participate in a reception with business leaders and the Nigerian diaspora in the UK.
Members of the President’s entourage include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Prince Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa, National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, among others.
