President Bola Tinubu has arrived Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, in North-East Nigeria for the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference.

His plane touched down around 11:47am at the Air Force Base and observed a brief military parade. He was received by Governor Babagana Zulum; former Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff; Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru and Senator Ali Ndume among other dignitaries.

The President is also expected to launch 100 buses including 50 electric vehicles procured by Borno State Government to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on citizens.

President Tinubu is however to pay homage on the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba shortly on arrival in Maiduguri.

The 2023 Chief of Army Staff, COAS Annual Conference in Maiduguri has as the theme, “Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment”. The week-long conference is an important annual event in the calendar of the Nigerian Army due to its significance to national security, peace, and stability.

It offers the Army an avenue to take stock, evaluate, and comprehensively review ongoing operational engagements in all theatres of operation across the six geo-political zones within the year, among other key agenda items. It will also provide the Army with in-depth insight to make far-reaching decisions that will be result-oriented, towards achieving its set objective of addressing multi-faceted security challenges in the country.

The conference would also create an opportunity for the COAS to have face-to-face interaction with the General Officers Commanding, field commanders, and other senior officers, to provide the requisite guidance on enhancing Nigerian Army operations and activities.

The conference is being declared open by President Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The opening ceremony is also featuring an address to troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, an inspection of the ongoing Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Maiduguri, and laying of the foundation stone of the Headquarters of 7 Division by President Tinubu.

There is also a lecture titled, “Whole of Society Approach and Military Operations in Nigeria” being presented by former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika (Rtd).
