Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has attributed the money-laundering and terrorism-financing charges leveled against some of his administration officials by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to his refusal to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)–led federal government.
The governor reaffirmed that he would never defect to the APC, stressing that despite mounting pressure, he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Mohammed made the declaration after he was conferred with an Ambassadorial Award of Safety at the State Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Bauchi, North-East Nigeria.
Bala Mohammed had expressed dismay over what he described as Nigeria’s gradual drift towards a one-party system following the detention of the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged money-laundering and other charges against the state government,
He attributed the EFCC’s allegations against his administration to his refusal to defect to the APC-led federal government.
The governor noted that despite the federal government taking over 51 percent of national resources, not a single kilometre of federal road has been constructed in Bauchi State.
He emphasized that this would not deter his administration from utilizing the limited resources available to execute impactful projects across the state.
On the issue of the proposed tax reforms, Governor Mohammed called on the federal government to reconsider the policy, warning that it would not be favorable to sub-national governments or the common man.
Governor Bala Mohammed stated that despite the allegations against his administration, he still has confidence in the judiciary and the Nigerian people, assuring that his government will continue to deliver lasting legacies and landmark projects that will make citizens proud, even with limited resources.
