Cross River State Commander of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Anthonia Edeh, says the agency under her watch has arrested 146 suspected drug peddlers and rehabilitated 114 persons with drug cases in the last one year.
Edeh in a statement signed and released to the press in Calabar to mark this year’s United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Friday, said that within the period under review, the command also secured 15 convictions in respect to drug-related offences at the Federal High Court Calabar.
According to her, the command carried out drug enlightenment programmes with the view to educating the general public on the inherent dangers of drug abuse.

She described drug abuse and Illicit trafficking of drugs as an “evil in our society”, adding, ” it is an industry working generally in a vicious cycle of manufactured demand and supply.”
Edeh said that in line with this year’s theme; “Better Knowledge for Better Care”, there is the need for all stakeholders to join hands to reduce the menace, saying that drug abuse and Illicit trafficking is a major challenge across the world just as it is in Nigeria and Cross River State in particular.
