The need to urgently address the issues of price increases for petroleum products and electricity tariffs was top on the agenda as lawmakers resumed plenary after a six-week break.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in his address, called on his colleagues to confront the daunting challenges facing Nigeria with determination and unity.

Acknowledging the recent tragedies that have befallen the nation, Senator Akpabio emphasised the need to address insecurity, terrorism, and economic instability.

He emphasised that the tragic explosion in Port Harcourt highlights the urgency of addressing safety measures, and ensuring the well-being of citizens.

The Senate President also highlighted the economic challenges posed by the increase in electricity tariffs and petroleum product prices, stressing the need to prioritise affordability and tackle inflation.

Underscoring the importance of cooperation and partnership, Senator Akpabio called for unity among senators, and collaboration with constituents, to effectively address the nation’s pressing issues.

He emphasised the role of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, in advancing Nigeria’s interests.

Senator Akpabio emphasised the importance of cooperation with other tiers of government, to ensure the success of Nigeria’s democracy.
