Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday stormed the National Assembly complex in Abuja in solidarity with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The demonstrators, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Akpabio Must Go,” “We Stand with Senator Natasha,” and “Akpabio is Anti-North,” marched peacefully while singing and dancing.
They called for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio to allow for what they described as an impartial investigation into allegations raised by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The protest follows a heated exchange last week between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber.
The Kogi Central senator has since accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, prompting the Senate to refer the matter to its Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen (LP, Edo South), for investigation.
