The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has defended his administration’s decision to privatise some government-owned enterprises insisting that the decision was backed by law.
The law on Privatisation and Commercialisation of Enterprises in the state and for Purposes Connected Therewith 2010 empowers him to do so.

Ortom was reacting to criticism from persons believed to be members of the opposition who are against the policy.
The planned privatisation of moribund industries whose economic value keeps depreciating annually began to generate quite a controversy, particularly on social media space following a recent advertisement to that effect.
A stir, the State Governor credited to members of the opposition in the State.
Since 2018, the state government initiated plans to privatise 11 of its enterprises to revive the unprofitable ventures, a move some fear will not be in the interest of the State.
