Some eligible voters in Makurdi Benue State capital have alleged deliberate plot to exclude them from the Voters register and effectively disenfranchise them in 2023.

Expressing their displeasure over the conduct of on-going voter registration in the State, some potential voters who have been unable to register said INEC officials are now hiding behind
excuses of poor telephony network service, inadequate machines and registration centres not to turn up for weeks for the exercise.

They called on the electoral commission (INEC) to make immediate provision for more equipment and personnel as well as registration centres to ease their plight.

Tempers flared at the INEC office in Makurdi on Monday as hundreds of residents desperate to get themselves on the voter register stormed the main entrance to the complex.

A prospective voters,
Hambe Benjamin told AIT that he has been trying to secure his Permanent Voter’ Card(PVC) for weeks to no avail.

Inside, the registration exercise went on smoothly as INEC officials tried to assure the restive crowd that everyone of them will be captured and registered.
